One convenient method for adding many users to your platform quickly is via the "Add Users by CSV" functionality in the Global Classroom platform. The first row of your CSV file should specify the format of your CSV data. For example, it should look like this:
This row must include the username, password, email, firstname and lastname fields. It must also include fields that you have made mandatory for all users to fill out and any fields locked for the institution you are uploading the users for. Your CSV file may include any other profile fields as you require. The full list of fields is:
Other relevant options include the following:
|Institution||The selected Institution that users will be members of.|
|Force password change?||Whether users should be forced to change their password when they log in for the first time|
|Email users about their account?||Whether an email should be sent to users informing them of their new account details|
|Update users?||If your CSV file contains the usernames of users who are already members of the institution you have specified, their details will be overwritten with data from the file. Use with care.|
|Friends control||Choose whether other users may add you to their friends list. If you are added to a friends list, the owner of that list is added to your list as well. When you remove someone from your friends list, you are also removed from their list. Choose either:
|HTML editor||Always leave enabled (checked).|
|Disable email?||Disables the platform from sending email to the email address stored for this user. Be sure to use when adding users with fake email addresses.|
|Messages from other users?||Use this setting to choose who you wish to receive messages from.
Use the activity preferences area to decide how you will receive these messages.
Note: These restrictions will not apply to site administrators or staff.
|Language||You may be able to customize the language in which your menu items and contextual help will appear. Please Contact Us if you have any questions.|
|Show controls to add and remove columns when editing a page?||Leave disabled for best functionality.|
|Enable multiple blogs?||By default, you have one blog. If you would like to keep more than one blog, check this option.|
|Maximum tags in cloud||Maximum number of tags to display in your tag cloud|
|Hide real name||Check this box if you have set a display name and you do not want other users to be able to find you by your real name in user searches.|
|Homepage information||If "On", information about this site and what can be done with it will be displayed on the homepage above the user's dashboard items.|
